Most recently, in the role of CNO Mary led the University of Pennsylvania’s, Pennsylvania Hospital to its first designation in 2015.
Mary was part of the FIRST team (outside the pilot) to achieve Magnet designation and is the original author of the “Magnet Champion” program. Mary shares that she “smiles” every time she hears someone mention their team’s Magnet Champions. After serving many great health systems such as Hackensack Meridian, Lehigh Valley, Bon Secours and the University of Pennsylvania (all M4E participants) Mary founded Del Guidice Consulting. Mary was recently appointed the first Chief Nursing Officer of Tipton Health, the United States’ largest nursing excellence consulting company. With over 200 clients or 35% of all Magnet organizations Tipton Health enjoys a 100% success rate in supporting teams through every step of their Magnet journey from initial assessment to building and enculturating cultures of excellence to document and site-visit preparation. As CNO, Mary aspires to become the team that all healthcare leaders turn to and rely upon to address the challenges of the day while also forging ahead to achieve their vision, from the bedside to the boardroom. Mary shared, “We are helping teams with everything from achieving Magnet and Pathway designation to improving the work environment for nurse leaders and staff, developing strategic plans and shared decision-making structures to coaching nurse leaders and their teams and everything in between.” Mary went on to say, “As Tipton Health CNO, I look forward to continuing my calling as a nurse by supporting nurse leaders and their teams to realize their visions, hopes and dreams” Mary has a track record of award-winning devotion leading and engaging teams to achieve exemplary levels of patient and staff satisfaction receiving recognition from organization’s such as Press Ganey and the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program. While serving as CNO at UPenn, Mary and Dr. Aiken formed a strong partnership creating a successful Clinical Nurse Research Scholarship Program. Dr. Aiken soon appointed Mary a Senior Fellow in the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research and then invited Mary to join the Magnet4Europe team. Mary stated that involvement in Magnet4Europe has been a “highlight” of her career. She feels very fortunate to have had the experience of improving work environments and feels compelled to share her knowledge and expertise. Mary especially enjoys and is inspired by meeting and learning from all of the M4E teams. Mary shared “it is a true honor, especially in these unprecedented times to be part of global effort supporting nurses to practice and lead in all the ways they aspire engendering well-being, fulfillment and recognition at every level.” Mary also shared that she deeply admires the dedication, enthusiasm and great work of all of the European M4E teams, and the generosity of spirit, time and expertise shared by the U.S. Magnet Hospitals. Mary also notes her gratitude for the opportunity to work so closely with Dr. Linda Aiken, as she has admired her since they first met her back in the early 90s. Finally, Mary and her husband Victor have been married for 26 years and live in New Jersey. Mary is an identical twin and enjoys spending time with family, reading and cooking.
